Districts

KYO has committees in all seven districts of Karen State. There are also KYO committees in many of the townships and villages in each district. Our network is very wide reaching and our teams do a great deal of small-scale activities on very limited budgets. Our work is conducted in most parts of Karen State, although in SPDC and DKBA-controlled areas KYO is a banned organisation and our teams face arrest and imprisonment if they are caught. Nevertheless, our staff are committed to helping Karen youths develop and learn knowledge that is denied them under SPDC rule.

KYO staff in the districts are all volunteers, they receive no salary at all. They conduct their work on very small budgets and struggle to purchase even basic materials for their work: pens, notebooks, flip chart paper etc. If you would like to give a one-off donation or sponsor a district team, please contact us at kyohqktl@yahoo.com.

A very small donation can go a long way:

  • US$10 can buy one monthly phone card, allowing the team to organise and coordinate their activities with other organisations inside Karen State
  • US$100 can provide all of the meeting costs and office materials for one district team for one year

The seven districts in Karen State (as defined by the KNU) are as follows:

  1. KYO Mergui-Tavoy District (Tenasserim) - including Tham Hin Refugee Camp and Ban Don Yang Refugee Camp KYO
  2. KYO Mutraw District (Papun) - including Mae La Oon Refugee Camp, Mae Ramoe Luang Refugee Camp and Ei Thu Hta IDP Camp KYO
  3. KYO Dooplaya District - including Noe Poe Refugee Camp and Umpiem Mai Refugee Camp KYO
  4. KYO Pa-an District - including Mae La Refugee Camp and Ler Per Her IDP Camp KYO
