Karen Youth Organisation works for the development of Karen youths. We provide training and support for Karens in Burma and Thailand and assist them in their struggle for freedom and democracy in Burma.

Our Staff Number of Staff KYO is organised at the central, district, township and village levels and has more than 3000 committee members in total. The staff at the KYO central headquarters in Mae Sot (official contact office) comprise:
Employment Information All staff are volunteers and receive no allowances from KYO. Committees are elected in elections, which take place every four years at the KYO congress. Central Executive Committee, District Committees and Township Committees have elected members responsible for implementation of programs. These are:
The Executive Committee have job descriptions as laid out by the KYO Congress and the term of service at the central level is four years. At district and township levels it is two years and at village level it is one year. Member Recruitment Members are actively recruited and indirectly recruited. At grass roots level, members of the KYO Organizing Committee conduct talks describing the KYO organization. Youth who are interested in joining complete a membership form which is sent to the District Committee where the decision is made on whether to accept the applicant. Indirectly, recruitment occurs through participation in KYO-sponsored activities such as training and workshops. If you would like to become a member of KYO please send an email to the Central executive committee at kyohqktl@yahoo.com Performance Evaluation Peers evaluate one another quarterly with the advisors during committee meetings, during monthly committee meetings and through working together. Executive Committee members and staff evaluate one another informally. Staff Meetings The Central Executive Committee (CEC) meets monthly. During quarterly Executive Committee meetings, advisors and other guests such as workshop facilitators or donors attend. The EC holds emergency meetings as needed. At the annual meeting, held at the beginning of the year, 1-2 members of each District Committee attend and present their activity reports. This is an important forum for exchange of information. Important issues are discussed. At the annual meeting, the yearly plan is composed. Volunteers In the past KYO Central Committee has hosted a VSO volunteer in the office and a number of volunteers teaching in the central KYO Leadership and Management School or working in the Karen refugee camps on the Thai-Burma border. We occasionally have opportunities for English language teachers in our Karen Youth Leadership and Management Training School on the Thai-Burma border. Some volunteers come through the Burma Volunteer Program but others contact us directly.
