Youth Training Centre

Youth Training Centre (YTC) has been running for almost ten years. Each year around 20 students from the refugee camps and inside Karen State come to study at the school for ten months. They learn leadership and management skills, Karen history, English language, law and human rights and a number of other subjects. They also learn about each other, since they come from very different backgrounds and often speak different languages.

Most go on to secure good jobs in the Karen and NGO community, becoming leaders and role models for their peers.

The YTC dormitory and KYO office was rebuilt in June 2008 using teamwork and leadership from KYO staff, students and Ler Per Her residents. If we can secure enough funding, we plan to build another dormitory to relieve crowding in the current building. However, the most urgent funding need is for the centre's basic running costs. It costs 845,000 Baht to run the centre each year. So far we have less than 50% of this pledged by a donor. We are urgently seeking donations to meet the remaining basic running costs.
